ATTENTION: Incoming Middle-School Families

Sunnyside has openings for 6th grade students in 2010-2011. If you have an incoming middle school student who would like to attend Sunnyside next year, you must come to a mandatory middle school enrollment meeting.

What: Middle School Enrollment Mandatory Meeting
When: Tuesday Feb. 16, 2010, 6:30-7:30pm
Where: 3421 SE Salmon Street, Auditorium

It is necessary, if your child plans to attend/apply for SES middle school, that an adult representative of the student attend this meeting. Please call the SES office at 503-916-6226 if more information is needed. It is not possible to set up individual appointments.

ALSO: Middle School Shadow Opportunity

Potential incoming middle School students may shadow at Sunnyside any Friday morning in February. No pre-registration is required. Students should come the office after 8:30 on the morning they are shadowing. Students must be signed in and picked up by an adult. Students will attend middle school Morning Meeting, then be assigned to a student to shadow for the morning. Pick-up time is 12:30.

Kindergarten/School Enrollment for 2010-2011

Enrollment questions? First read this page, then contact the enrollment secretary, Wende Johnson.

Our registration process is coming up quickly, and we wanted to make the community aware of some important dates and actions.

  1. Clipboards in the office. We need to know whether your family has an incoming student for next year. While it is paramount that we know about incoming KINDERGARTEN students, we would also like to know about incoming students of all ages. In the office there are 2 clipboards. Please come in and put your incoming student's name on the appropriate clipboard (neighborhood or transfer) no later than January 29. This is the only reliable way we can set our transfer slots accurately for siblings. WE CONSIDER THIS SIGN-UP A PART OF THE MANDATORY MEETING FOR THE TRANSFER PROCESS. If you do not sign up on the clipboard in the office (to let us know that you intend to go through the transfer process for a sibling), we will not know you plan to go through the process and there will not be a slot available for your child.
  2. Kindergarten round-up. Kindergarten round-up will be, February 9 at 6 pm. (March 16 is a make-up day. Classrooms will not be open nor teachers available since school is in session.) Attendance is mandatory for transfer students, even if your child has a sibling who already attends the school. Attendance is strongly encouraged for neighborhood families--we are an overcrowded school and are hoping to preliminarily register neighborhood families at these events as a way to better predict our total numbers.
  3. Will we get in if we go through the transfer process? As our community knows, we are facing a dire problem with overcrowding/over-enrollment. Our goal every year is to admit all siblings and as many prospective, interested, transfer students as possible. We anticipate having space in our middle school to accomplish this goal for the 2010-2011 school year. In the kindergarten, unfortunately, this is less likely. We hope to have enough space to accommodate all of our transfer siblings (this is why we MUST know who you are!), but the odds of having space beyond that for transfer kindergarten students who are not siblings is unlikely. We will not have transfer slots available at grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 or 8. Again, if you have an interested 6th grader we will likely have space in that grade.

Kindergarten Round-up will be February 9th at 6:00 pm.

A Middle School mandatory meeting will be held February 16th at 6:30 pm.

The make-up meeting for K-8 will be March 16th at 9:00 am
